Acne is an inflammation of the skin. You can find various treatments to get rid of it. But can toothpaste remove pimples effectively?
Toothpaste can get rid of pimples in three ways.
- You can use it as a mask to remove sebum and dirt from the skin.
- It contains menthol, Triclosan or alcohol that have drying effect. Triclosan kills bacteria because it has antibacterial properties. It also used in anti acne products as a preservative. Toothpaste shrinks the size of the zits by drying them out. This also reduces the healing time of pimples.
- Most toothpastes contain peppermint which has a cooling effect. It can calm inflammation and redness which is prevalent with most pimples.
You begin by washing your face regularly. This will remove any excess sebum and dirt on your face. Sebum and dirt clog your pores that allow zits to develop.
When applying toothpaste on your pimples, let it sit for at least half an hour. Then gently wash it with water. Never leave it overnight as it can cause burning, peeling, and drying on your skin. Use it once a day to clear your acne.
If you want an overnight treatment, then don’t rely on toothpaste to get rid of your zits quickly.
Sometimes, toothpaste can burn your skin. Make sure you test it on the back of your hand first. Never use it on your whole face. It can dry out your skin. Only use it on pimples.
Remember that toothpaste does not address the root causes of acne.
Hormonal changes during puberty and pregnancy are some of causes of pimples. When your pores are blocked, it can lead to breakouts. None of these causes can be resolved with toothpaste. You are better off with acne treatment products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Some toothpastes can eliminate zits. But some can irritate your skin. Although they can dry out pimples quickly but it is not the best treatments for acne. Dry and peeling skin can lead to inflammation and broken skin, allowing more bacterial infections. Dry skin usually responds with more sebum production, causing more breakouts.
You should use an all-white toothpaste when treating acne. Colored ones may miss out certain ingredients that are important for drying out zits. It also tends to cause irritation. Look the labels and see if it contains drying agents such as baking soda, triclosen, and hydrogen peroxide
Using toothpaste to get rid of acne is a cheap method to get fast relief. It is an easy DIY remedy that can be done at home. It can reduce the size of zits and dry them out quickly. It works effectively on pimples that are not inflamed yet.
